Successful Masters Thesis Defense

Congratulations to Jaryd Traer who has successfully defended his masters thesis on “High Fidelity Additive Manufacturing Process Modelling for Residual Stress and Deformation”.  Jaryd has contributed heavily to the SMSD group and will be missed. We wish you success in your future endeavours!

Welcome New SMSD Members!

Congratulations to Rubens Bohrer, Kevin Conklin, Luke Crispo, and Evan Munroe on joining the SMSD lab!

Rubens is pursuing his PhD in SMSD, he received his MASc at Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica and spent 5 years as a development engineer at Embraer S.A..

Kevin, Luke, and Evan all earned their BASc at Queen’s Applied Science in mechanical engineering, and have decided to continue their studies as MASc students in SMSD.

Successful Masters Thesis Defenses

Congratulations to Luke Ryan and Christopher Woischwill who have both successfully defended their masters theses on “Finite Element Analysis of Nanometal-Polymer Hybrids with Experimental Validation“ and “Large Scale Topology Optimization”.  Luke and Chris have both made great contributions to the lab in their time spent in the SMSD group. We wish you all the best with your future endeavours!

Chris W. new career wishes!

Dr. Kim and the members from the SMSD lab would like to congratulate one of  our new alumni Christopher Woischwill on starting his career at General Motors Canada!

Chris, we are positive that you will be an excellent addition to the GM team. You have done a fine job in SMSD for many years and sure deserve the position in new job that they are giving you. Congratulations, it will be a great experience for you!

Multi-Material Topology Optimization Publication!

A big congratulations to SMSD alumnus, Dr. Li and Dr. Kim for their newest journal paper publication in Automotive Engineering.  Dr. Li and Dr. Kim developed algorithms for multi-material topology optimization considering compliance minimization problems for automotive applications.  Be sure to check out the latest issue of Automotive Engineering for a great read of the paper.

Expanding Research Suite with GM Canada!

Dr. Kim and SMSD are thrilled to announce that the current collaboration with General Motors Canada will be expanding into a suite of new research topics.  Look forward to new focus in topics including design optimization, topology optimization, lightweight design, multi-material design, large-scale optimization, and parts integration over the coming years of the research collaboration.
