New SMSD Server Installed

Our new server was successfully installed, and is up and running! Codenamed Lucky Cat, the server is sporting a total of 96 computer processing unit (CPU) cores, 192 CPU threads, 2 terabytes of random-access memory (RAM), 4 graphics processing units (GPU), and over 25 terabytes of storage.

Congratulations to Noah Ray and Kevin Chai for all their work on successfully installing the new server!

Stephen Roper Defends Thesis

Congratulations to Dr. Stephen Roper for successfully defending his thesis! Stephen’s paper was titled “Integrated Topology and Packaging Optimization Using the Component-Existence Model”.

Stephen has been an invaluable source of knowledge and experience for many in SMSD, and we are all wishing him the best in the future!

Rubens Publication to Composite Structures

Congratulations to Rubens Bohrer for his recent publication to Composite Structures! His paper is titled “Concurrent topology and stacking sequence optimization of composite laminate plates using lamination parameters” and introduces a methodology for simultaneous optimization of both topology and composite stacking sequence. Incredible work, Rubens!
